Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school. We hope that you had a great break during the school holidays and were able to experience some enjoyable family time.
This is to let you know what the students in Year 4 will be doing this semester.
Your child will take turns with monitorial tasks in the classroom. There are a number of responsibilities and these include: prayer, room, office/notes, landfill bin, compost bin, paper bin, plastics/cans/glass bin
MATHEMATICS
This term the students will be using the Stepping Stones mathematics program. Some of the areas that we will cover will include:
- Addition and subtraction using number lines and vertical algorithms
- Multiplication facts
- Multiplication using think boards for understanding eg.(students will learn groups of, the symbol, make with materials and create a language story to demonstrate their understanding of the concept)
- Multiplication and division facts
- Analogue and digital time
- Measurement using centimetres and metres
- Chance and probability
- Grid referencing
- Reading scales and comparing mass
- 2 D shapes
- Perimeter
- Money and rounding
LITERACY
During this term your child will be involved in the following activities:
- A variety of writing genres, including the text types of recount, narrative, report writing and explanation. These will be integrated in literacy work and our inquiry unit.
- Data from our Literacy testing and student writing will continue to impact the dynamics of the literacy groupings and thus drive what we cover in reading and comprehension, spelling and grammar.
HOME LEARNING
Home Learning is an opportunity to consolidate skills and both learn and practise the process of time management - becoming more organised with planning available home learning time, extra curricula activities and family life is a life long skill.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Your child will be involved in the following sports throughout this term
- Bluearth Team Building skills
CAMP
Where: Maldon - Victorian Blue Light Youth Camps Inc.
Notes re camp will be sent home closer to the date.
It may be useful to note that there is bike riding on the camp and that all students need to bring an Australian Standards approved bike helmet. All bikes are supplied.
